Nathan Gent's Story

Nathan Gent’s path toward becoming a judge was shaped by his childhood belief that justice should prevail. In a grade school mock trial, Nathan was assigned the role of judge and has ever since had an innate desire to promote justice and to abide by the law. As a Boy Scout, on his path to achieving his Eagle Scout, the merit badges of citizenship in the community and citizenship in the nation left a deep impression upon him.

After graduating from Bremerton High School in Washington, he was employed as a construction employee working with cement and foundations. During that time, he would work overtime to help build the Seattle Seahawks Football Stadium. Later he served a mission in Guatemala for two years. There he observed poverty, but also excellent work ethic, and kindness exuded by the many people he served. These experiences would later shape his values as he continuously seeks to work hard and show kindness to others.

After serving his mission, he attended Brigham Young University in Utah where he graduated with a history degree, before going on to enroll in the William S. Boyd School of Law at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. It was then that he did an externship under the Honorable Federal Judge Lloyd D. George, a long-serving U.S. District Judge for Nevada for whom the Las Vegas courthouse was named.

After Nathan graduated from the University of Nevada Las Vegas Law School in 2010, he moved to live in Pahrump, Nye County full time, and has lived here ever since working as a Deputy District Attorney, defense attorney, and public defender. In 2013, he married his beautiful wife Nicole Kellogg, and together they have been blessed with six incredible children, the first three are triplets.

In his spare time Nathan loves watching and coaching his children’s soccer, baseball, and basketball teams. He currently serves the community as an elected member of the Nye County School Board, seeking to improve and better the lives and learning of every child in Nye County.

Seeing unethical, inefficient, and disrespectful behavior in the courtrooms of Nye County, He decided the good people of Nye and Esmeralda County deserved better. He decided it was time to step up and make a difference and officially filed to become a candidate for the Fifth Judicial District Court Judge Department 1. When asked why he was running for Judge, Nathan sincerely responded, “because your rights matter, and you deserve to be heard. In my courtroom you will be seen. You will be heard, and you will be respected. You deserve better! Together we can make a difference. It is time for change.” Vote Nathan Gent for District Court Judge Department 1.
